Safety at United Steel
"Let's end each day where it started,
safe at home."
United Steel's Safety Mission
United Steel has a strong commitment to the safety of our employees, from the ownership and management to every employee. It is a critical part of our culture and an integral part of our daily routine. We approach safety, from a full-time Safety Director, a Safety Committee, an Ergonomics Committee, employee training, and most importantly, employee involvement.
One of the main keys to our success is involving all levels of employees in our safety program. In fact, the open and honest communcation we enjoy with our employees, due to their trust in our commitment to safety, is the greatest asset in our safety program. We have also placed no restrictions on obtaining the necessary safety equipment needed to protect our employees.
In the past four years United Steel has achieved the following: - A 40% reduction in injuries - A reduction of our EMR - Lower workers compensation costs - Four consecutive Platinum Safety Achievement Awards from the ABC - An award from AISC for having no injuries in our fabrication shop - Our miscellaneous metals, field crews, and structural fabrication shops have all achieved over 400 days without a lost time injury

"I thought you'd like to know what a great job your crew is doing. We were all speaking the same language on safety right from the beginning. It went beyond that to all of the little things. I was so impressed with them. Our superintendent tells me your guys showed up on time, put in a hard day's work everyday, and did a top notch job. He said your crew was the best he'd ever worked with in his 20 years in construction."
