United Steel was founded in 1974 as East Hartford Welding by Kenneth F. Corneau, still United Steel’s Chairman of the Board. Through continuous growth, he has led the company to its strong market position today as the largest fabricator and erector of structural steel and miscellaneous metals in New England.

Chairman of the Board
Ken Corneau founded United Steel, formerly known as East Hartford Welding, in 1974. He oversees and manages all long-term strategic decisions and plans to ensure the continued success and strength of United Steel.
Keith R. Corneau
President & CEO
Keith Corneau serves as President and CEO. He is responsible for all operations at United Steel.
Vice President of Field Construction
Glen Corneau serves as Vice President of Field Construction and is on United Steel’s Leadership Committee. He is responsible for supervising the field superintendents and overseeing all field crews of ironworkers and field foreman in both structural steel and miscellaneous metals divisions of United Steel.
Lynn M. Caouette
Chief Financial Officer
Lynn Caouette serves as Chief Financial Officer and is on United Steel’s Leadership Committee. She oversees the company’s fiscal obligations and manages the company’s controller and accounting team. Lynn is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of AICPA, CSCPA, and CFMA.
Director of Sales and Estimating
Jeff Godin serves as the Director of Sales and Estimating and is a member of United Steel’s Leadership Committee. He is known for being “forward thinking,” and uses his vast experience to strategically guide clients, target solutions, and efficiently quote projects.

In addition to changing skylines in countless cities and towns across New England, United Steel has been able to change lives. This is done through volunteer hours given by employees, through our corporate support of various civic initiatives, and by helping motivate and inspire the next generation of tradesmen and women through our involvement in the American Institute of Steel Construction.
“Steel Day” – an annual event sponsored by the American Institute of Steel Construction. Customers, architects, prospects, and students from area technical high schools and colleges were invited for a guided tour of our state-of-the-art facility for structural steel and miscellaneous metals fabrication.
United Steel is committed to supporting our local trade schools and colleges. We are supporters of both the UCONN and CCSU Bridge teams – we donate materials and access to our staff and resources to help students experience ‘hands on’ learning.
