Company History
United Steel was founded in 1974 as East Hartford Welding by Kenneth F. Corneau, still United Steel’s Chairman of the Board. Through continuous growth, he has led the company to its strong market position today as the largest fabricator and erector of structural steel and miscellaneous metals in New England.

Leadership Team
Kenneth Corneau
Chairman of the Board
Ken Corneau is the founder United Steel, formerly known as East Hartford Welding, in 1974. He participates in all long-term strategic decisions and plans to ensure the continued success and strength of United Steel.
Keith R. Corneau
President & CEO
Keith Corneau is responsible for all operations at United Steel, including Creating an Environment and Culture that Focuses on Fulfilling our Mission, Vision, and Core values. He is responsible for the Creation and Execution of Corporate Strategy, Profitable Growth, Measurables, and Accountability of the Leadership Team, which cascade throughout the entire company.
Glen Corneau
Vice President of Shop and Field Operations
Glen Corneau is Responsible for supervising All Shop and Field Operations for both the Structural Steel and Miscellaneous Metals Divisions.
Lynn M. Caouette, CPA, MSAT
Chief Financial Officer
Lynn Caouette is responsible for all aspects of the company’s financial health and strategy. She manages the development and implementation of financial controls and processes that improve profitability. She leads the Accounting, Human Resources and Information Technology teams.
Jeff Godin
Vice President of Sales
Jeff Godin is responsible for All Sales and Estimating for both the Structural Steel and Miscellaneous Metals Divisions. He uses his vast experience to strategically guide clients, target solutions, and efficiently quote projects.

Brain Injury Alliance
In addition to changing skylines in countless cities and towns across New England, United Steel has been able to change lives. This is done through multiple events that benefit the Brain Injury Alliance of CT and other charities. To Date United Steel has raised over $1 Million dollars in donations specifically to the Brain Injury Association of CT, not to mention additional donations to the CT Children’s Medical Center, Hartford Hospital (Including N95Masks during Covid), Habitat for Humanity, Toys for Tots, St Mary’s Food Bank, and a host of other worthy charitable organizations, proving that at United Steel, “Support is our Strength!”
Steel Day
“Steel Day” – an annual event sponsored by the American Institute of Steel Construction. Customers, architects, prospects, and students from area technical high schools and colleges were invited for a guided tour of our state-of-the-art facility for structural steel and miscellaneous metals fabrication.
Local Involvement
United Steel is committed to supporting our local trade schools and colleges. We are supporters of both the UCONN and CCSU Bridge teams – we donate materials and access to our staff and resources to help students experience ‘hands on’ learning.
Professional Affiliations
United Steel is a proud member of the American Institute of Steel Construction and is AISC certified as both Steel Erector and Steel Fabricator for Steel Building Structures. As the leader in structural steel related technical and market-building activities, the American Institute of Steel Construction strives to make structural steel the material of choice.
