Derby High School Athletic Facility
Our structural steel erection crew is nearing completion of the J.R. Payden Field House – the result of a $2 million private donation to upgrade the sporting facilities. The new club house will offer views of both the new football and baseball fields and is slated for completion in the fall of 2019.
CCIA Awards
In December United Steel learned that we had earned the CCIA (Connecticut Construction Industries Association) Community Service award for our commitment to the CCSU Bridge Team and our support of UCONN’s Engineering Department for research they are doing for the DOT. In addition, we received a Safety Recognition Award for Excellence in Construction Safety and Health — what an honor!

Rogers International School
Our structural crews are busy hanging steel at Strawberry Hill School, and extension of Rogers International School in Stamford, CT. The 584 ton fabrication/erection project started in June and the 60,000 s.f. facility will be occupied in the fall, 2019.
Top Work Place
We owe a sincere ‘thank you’ to our team for nominating United Steel for the 2018 Top Workplaces award. We are proud to have received this recognition from the Hartford Courant for the fifth consecutive year.
We were also honored to be recognized as a finalist for the Subcontractor of the Year by the Associated General Contractors of CT at their Industry Recognition Awards Dinner on October 11th.

399 Congress
Our teams are nearing the half-way point on the 24-story 399 Congress building in the heavily redeveloped seaport section of Boston. We fabricated and are managing the erection process for the 4,359-ton project, and we are scheduled to complete our portion in February 2019.
Back to School
Our Miscellaneous Metals team has completed a 21-month project at Beverly Middle School, located in Beverly MA. The team fabricated and installed custom guardrails, ramp rails, balcony rails, custom ceiling and wall panels, wall supports, bike racks, powder coated gates and bollard covers.
14th Annual 'Walk for Thought'
Each year more than 3.5 million Americans will sustain a brain injury, which is the leading cause of injury-related death and disability in the United States. Mark your calendars and join our team as we raise funds to support the Brain Injury Alliance of CT - the only organization in Connecticut that offers support to brain injury survivors and provides prevention education completely free of charge.
We'll be walking on Sunday, October 21st at Rentschler Field in East Hartford.

Boston College Recreation Facility
Our Structural and Miscellaneous Metals teams are in the final phase of the new recreation center at Boston College. The 2,000+ ton project includes both steel and three pre-assembled stairs, wide-flange trusses, hanging running tracks and special paint/finishes.
WW2 Memorial
The Black Rock Fireproof Column team is proud to have worked on “The Hall of Democracy” – a new 34,800-square-foot pavilion that will be in the heart of the National World War II Museum campus in New Orleans. Black Rock Fireproof Column produced 22 columns using round shells, requiring 109 tons of steel concrete and vermiculite. The columns will be used inside of the building.

Connecticut Building Congress: Project Team Awards
We are proud to have worked with Petra Construction on Phase 1 of the Ronald McDonald House in New Haven. The structure has 18 bedrooms with private baths, a handicapped accessible kitchen, a dining room, a family room, play areas with all the amenities of a home, laundry facilities as well as 2 respite rooms and a fully handicap accessible shower room.
